NEW HIT KIDS ANIMATION SERIES, THE BEATLES-INSPIRED BEAT BUGS™, RELEASING ITS OWN FUN TOY RANGE IN NOVEMBER
The hottest TV show for 3 to 6 year old’s featuring music made famous by one of the world’s most beloved bands – The Beatles – is set to release its own super-fun range of toys in November 2017.
Beat Bugs, which premiered on the Seven Network in Australia and now airs on Nick Jr. and Netflix here, is an Emmy Award-winning animated kids’ series featuring music inspired by The Beatles. Created by award-winning Australian director, screenwriter and producer Josh Wakely, Beat Bugs revolves around the lives and adventures of five best friends – who just happen to be charming and funny bugs!
The gang explore their suburban backyard home and learn some valuable life lessons along the way. Characters include Jay – a curious beetle, Crick – an inventive cricket, Walter – a slug with a big heart, Buzz – an optimistic fruit fly and Kumi – an imaginative lady bug.
From November, Big W will stock a range of exciting Beat Bugs toys including singing figurines, a Yellow Submarine Playset with Mud Wasp, plush toys, musical instruments including Jay’s Keyboard, Crick’s Guitar and Kumi’s Tambourine, plus DVDs.
The Australian-Canadian co-production introduces a whole new generation to the music of the most influential band in history. Each episode features an original re-recorded version of a song made famous by The Beatles that is incorporated into an innocent and child-friendly fashion. Songs are either performed by one of the characters or famous guest stars such as P!nk, Sia, Rod Stewart, Jennifer Hudson and Robbie Williams, amongst others.
Young viewers are treated to renditions of classics including: “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds”, “I am the Walrus”, “Penny Lane”, “Blackbird”, “Help!”, “Magical Mystery Tour”, “When I’m 64” and “Ticket to Ride”.
Having worked on bringing Beat Bugs to life for three years with a global team, Josh engaged his friend – well-known Australian singer/songwriter Daniel Johns, of Silverchair fame – to arrange and produce the music for the series as musical director.
“The series is all about teaching kids about life, not in a patronising way but with a bit of humour, whilst introducing them to incredible music,” says Josh. “In fact, the message of the theme song All You Need is Love is the main message I wanted to convey in the show.”
Since its debut, Josh Wakely’s Beat Bugs has been nominated for five 2017 Daytime Emmy Awards – winning the Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Preschool Animated Program. It also won an Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Award for Best Children’s Television Series and has been nominated for Most Outstanding Children’s Program at the 2017 TV Week Logie Awards.
